Fête des Pères, is Father's Day in French

Father’s Day in France is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.

This year the date is the 19th of June 2022, the same date as here in the UK.

How did Father's Day begin in France?

In the 1950s, a famous brand of lighter came up with the marketing idea of creating a day to celebrate the father figure to tie in with the launch of their latest product, and it became immediately popular.

Still today, children all over France give a gift to their father on this special day each year. For younger children, this is often a personal handmade gift, and for older children, this can be a shop-bought treat saved up for with their pocket money.
